Former Rangers man Ross Wilson has become the bearer of bad news at Nottingham Forest with the sacking of Steve Cooper.

Rangers have been through plenty of changes in 2023.

The Michael Beale era didn’t last too long and he was axed in October in favour of Philippe Clement.

Rangers also said goodbye to a few mainstays in recent years, with Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos all moved on.

There was even a big departure before the summer started with sporting director Ross Wilson leaving the club for Nottingham Forest.

Wilson decided to quit Rangers in April, becoming Nottingham Forest’s new ‘chief football officer’.

The Scot joined Rangers back in 2019 and left with rather mixed reviews over the club’s recruitment under his stewardship.

Wilson headed to Forest and presided over a chaotic transfer window with seven signings arriving on transfer deadline day.

That hasn’t brought results though and Forest have won just one of their last 13 Premier League games.

Boss Steve Cooper hasn’t been able to survive that run and was sacked by Forest on Tuesday.

It now turns out that, whilst it was club owner Evangelos Marinakis who decided to axe Cooper, Wilson was the man to deliver the news.

The Athletic claim that Wilson informed Cooper that his contract was being terminated, becoming the bearer of bad news for the Welshman.

Forest haven’t waited around either, confirming Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager earlier today.

Cooper to Nuno is a real change of approach and Forest – including Wilson – must now hope that this move works out amid a real battle against relegation.

If it doesn’t, Wilson may need to deliver more bad news – or receive some himself with Marinakis hardly afraid to pull the trigger.
