Former Rangers goalkeeper Cammy Bell is set to retire from professional football, according to the Scottish Sun.

34-year-old Bell is currently contracted to Queen’s Park after following manager Ray McKinnon to the SPFL League Two club from Falkirk in February 2020.

However, he was initially troubled by injury problems and despite since regaining fitness he’s been unable to displace current no.1 Willie Muir.

Bell has been named on the bench for the Spiders’ last five league matches but hasn’t made a first-team appearance for the club.

This lack of involvement appears to have convinced him that it’s time to hang up the gloves, with the Scottish Sun reporting that he trained for the last time as a professional on Monday after informing McKinnon of his intention to walk away.

Bell spent three years at Rangers after signing from Kilmarnock in 2013, accumulating 57 appearances in all competitions.

However, the arrival of Wes Foderingham pushed him down the pecking order and he left for Dundee United in 2016 in search of first-team football.

Dumfries-born Bell won one international cap for Scotland as a substitute in a 3-0 win over the Faroe Islands in 2010, while he also turned out for the likes of Hibernian, St Johnstone and Partick Thistle at club level.
