Former Rangers defender Lee Hodson set for Premiership return

Former Rangers defender Lee Hodson is set for an imminent return to the Premiership.

The 28-year-old is currently attached to EFL League One side Gillingham, but an update provided by the club’s official Twitter on Wednesday evening asserted that he is primed to leave the Priestfield Stadium on loan.

“The Gaffer [Steve Evans] has revealed that Lee Hodson has the choice of three Scottish Premier League sides to join on loan for the rest of the season.”

“He will make a decision overnight.”

It’s not overly surprising that Hodson is heading out on loan given his relative lack of playing time since joining the Gills in the summer.

The Northern Ireland international has accumulated just 761 minutes across 12 appearances, with his last outing coming as a late substitute in a win over Doncaster in early December.

Given his experience in the Scottish game, it’s natural that there’s interest from north of the border, too.

Before his time at Rangers, he enjoyed a loan stint with Kilmarnock, while he spent the final stages of his Ibrox contract on loan at St Mirren, helping them to avoid relegation at the back end of last season.

Given their history with the player, Killie and the Buddies could be among the three clubs chasing his signature.

It will be interesting to see where the versatile operator ends up, with less than 48 hours remaining in the January window.
