Former Rangers defender Aidan Wilson has signed for NIFL Premiership club Crusaders.
BBC Sport reports that the 21-year-old centre-back has joined the Belfast club on a two-year contract following a period as a free agent.
Wilson turned out twice in the Scottish Premiership for the Gers first-team at the back end of the 2016/17 season against Aberdeen and St Johnstone, before heading out on loan to gain experience in the lower leagues.
Injury problems hampered the youngster over the next few seasons, though, and he only made around 20 appearances across stints at Dumbarton, Forfar Athletic and most recently, Edinburgh City.
During his stint with the Citizens, Wilson told Rangers News that he had put his injury woes behind him and was enjoying getting minutes under his belt for the capital club.
However, the global health crisis ended his season prematurely and he was one of several young players released by the Gers earlier this summer at the expiration of their contracts.
After months of uncertainty, he’ll no doubt be delighted to have found a new club, while the relative security of a two-year deal is a real bonus.
Crusaders, who play at Seaview in North Belfast, have seen a lot of success in recent years under manager, Stephen Baxter, following a period of financial instability.
Baxter’s side have won the NIFL Premiership three times in the last five seasons but finished a disappointing third last year, with fellow Belfast club Linfield taking the title.
The provisional start date of the 2020/21 campaign is 17 October and after this surprising but exciting move, Wilson will be looking to hit the ground running.
