Rangers have made some questionable appointments over the past few years that have stopped the club from achieving success on and off the pitch.

Last season, the Light Blues’ third-place finish had little to do with the manager or the players, but the decisions made by some of the people behind-the-scenes a few years ago.

Under Andrew Cavenagh and his consortium, including the 49ers Enterprises, things finally appear to be heading in the right direction.

Nils Koppen in talks to join West Ham

Having been recently relegated from the Premier League, West Ham are now looking to hire Nils Koppen as their Director of Football, according to the West Ham Way.

The report claims that the Hammers have already opened talks with Koppen as they want him to provide the direction needed to get the club back to the top flight.

Having hired Karim Virani, the Light Blues’ former Technical Director as their interim CEO, they want another former Ibrox employee in Koppen.

The decision to hire the 41-year-old has not yet been made, as the London side are in talks with candidates for the role as well.

Koppen left the Gers just days after the takeover was finalised, with it seemingly becoming clear that the owners did not see eye to eye with him.

He then moved to Denmark to become the Technical Director at FC Copenhagen, and could be in line for another job.

Why Koppen was an abject failure at Rangers

Koppen joined the club back in January 2024, initially as the Director of Football Recruitment, before he was promoted to Technical Director towards the end of that year.

He spoke a big game about scouting hidden gems suitable for the Scottish Premiership, but had a very hit-and-miss record with his transfers.

Signings like Robbin Propper were viewed as underwhelming, while there seemed to be no sense in the pursuit of Fabio Silva, as a better option could have potentially won Rangers the league that season.

Even though he brought in 11 new players in one summer transfer window, he failed to close the gap on Celtic.

If anything, the gap grew even wider, and most Gers fans were delighted to see the back of him.
