Former Rangers captain Lee McCulloch is set to join Dundee United, returning to a coaching role as part of Robbie Neilson’s backroom staff.
According to The Herald, the Rangers icon will sign on the dotted line today and join up with Dundee United immediately.
It is a move which will send a small ripple of controversy though Scottish football. McCulloch was the captain of the Rangers side who were sent to the bottom of the Scottish game as part of the fallout from 2012.

Dundee United Chairman Stephen Thompson was a vocal opponent of Rangers as the club went to the wall. The general feeling amongst supporters is that Thompson revelled in our demise.
Now in the Scottish Championship, Rangers fans often point to karma in the case of Dundee United. Yes, it is unbecoming to suggest we were sent tumbling down the division because of Dundee United. But there are fewer clubs who acted with such a lack of grace concerning the entire thing.
Surely big Jig – who won 10 trophies over eight years at Ibrox – feels that as much as anyone.

Lee McCulloch eager to develop as a coach

Lee McCulloch has been out of Scottish football since leaving his role as Kilmarnock boss last October. This job will act as another stop on his development of a first team footballing coach.

McCulloch would then take up a coaching job in Poland at the beginning of last year. The former Wigan striker joined up with former Rangers fitness coach Adam Owen at Lechia Gdansk.
He had been in the running to take over the Motherwell U20s after Stephen Craigan left his role at Fir Park last month.
