The Edinburgh Evening News reports that former Rangers boss Stuart McCall has been interviewed in relation to the managerial vacancy at Hearts.

Austin MacPhee took charge of their League Cup semi-final defeat to the Gers, and a 5-2 home win over St Mirren at the weekend, with the search for the next boss continuing in the background.

McCall’s time in charge of Rangers came in 2015, as the club sought to return to the top flight.

His time at the helm was short-lived, though, and he was replaced by Mark Warburton at the end of the season, following a humiliating 6-1 aggregate defeat to Motherwell in the Premiership play-off final.

Since then, he’s taken charge of Bradford City (2016-18) and most recently, Scunthorpe United (2018-19). He was ultimately sacked in March 2019, with the Iron on course for relegation from EFL League One.

The report claims that former St Mirren and Sunderland boss Jack Ross and Steve Cotterill, most recently of Birmingham City, have also been interviewed.

An announcement doesn’t appear to be imminent, though, with owner Ann Budge set to conduct more interviews in the coming days.

Should McCall eventually be appointed, it will be the former Rangers player and manager’s first involvement in Scottish football since his Gers contract ended in 2015.
