Former Rangers and Ajax striker announces Ibrox return plans

Former Rangers striker Shota Arveladze is set to return to Ibrox as the Georgian legend and Hull City manager announces his plans to take part in the upcoming Weekend of Legends match.

The former Dinamo Tbilisi, Ajax and Ibrox star, now 49, spent four years at Ibrox between 2001 and 2005 winning five honours, including two SPL titles.

Now a successful football manager having won five trophies in two seasons with Uzbek club Pakhtakor Tashkent, ex-Rangers star Shota Arveladze is back in the UK as manager of Hull City.

And as the international break rolls around Shota will be making the trip north to play as part of the Rangers team in what promises to be a legendary encounter at Ibrox.

Some of the biggest names in world football will descend on Ibrox for the special Weekend of Legends match as a Rangers XI takes on a World XI to celebrate the club’s 150th anniversary.

Shota Arveladze made the announcement via his official Twitter account.

The Rangers team will include the likes of Giovanni van Bronkhorst, Paul Gascoigne, Sasa Papac, Michael Mols, Kris Boyd, Nikica Jelavić, Ronald De Boer and Barry Ferguson.

The World XI includes the likes of Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, Gheorghe Hagi, Claude Makelele, Ivan Cordoba, Kaka, Robbie Keane and a whole host of legendary footballing figures.

There will be plenty of eyes on this match and we suspect that the idea of seeing Rangers legends of old mix with some of the biggest names in football history will excite the support.

This will be a special match to celebrate the club’s 150th birthday and with it taking place during the international break fans will be kept busy as the first team rests up.

Rangers continue to fight on three fronts this season and kept their title hopes alive with a late 2-1 victory over Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.
