Former Rangers academy talent Scott Gray has signed for Lowland League club East Stirlingshire after a stint in the US was cut short due to Covid-19 [East Stirlingshire FC Twitter].

The left-back came up through the age-group ranks at Rangers before heading out on loan to East Stirling as well as Albion Rovers and Dalry Thistle. He was also part of the group that won the 2018/19 SPFL Reserve League.

However, his performances weren’t deemed enough to earn him a new deal and he was released by the club in the summer of 2019.

He then opted for a major change of scenery, heading across the Atlantic to explore opportunities in the United States.

Now 20, he has returned to Scotland and is back at one of his old loan clubs.

“We are delighted to welcome back Scott Gray,” wrote East Stirlingshire FC on Twitter. “The versatile left-sided player who spent 6 month on loan from Rangers in 18/19 season rejoins after a spell in America [which was] unfortunately cut short due to Covid.”

“Welcome back Scott.”

Gray will be starting afresh in the fifth tier of Scottish football, but given his age, he has plenty of time to rise up through the levels over the coming years.

The Shire have made a strong start to the 2020/21 season and are currently fourth in the Lowland League with 25 points from 11 matches.

However, Gers legend Barry Ferguson’s Kelty Hearts are very much the team to beat and are currently out in front with 33 points from 12 games.

Gray could make his first appearance on Wednesday night against Gala Fairydean Rovers.
