Ally McCoist has given his thoughts on the future of Ryan Kent, as quoted by the Daily Record.
Kent is currently serving a suspension for violent conduct but scored an excellent goal in the recent Old Firm at Parkhead.
However, his retrospective punishment ensures he only has four games left as a Rangers player. In this stint, anyway.

Steven Gerrard has repeatedly expressed his desire to keep him at Ibrox [Sunday Post], rather than letting him return to parent club, Liverpool.
However, McCoist doesn’t see a permanent deal happening.

“Kent has been fabulous this season”, said McCoist, as quoted by the Record. “Since coming back from his injury lay-off he’s been terrific and for me, he was the best player on the park against Celtic.”
“I’d imagine if there’s any way Steven could keep him, he’d be desperate to do so.
“However, it looks like another loan deal is the only way it could happen. His performances might just have priced Rangers out the market for him.
“I might be wrong but I think Rangers’ best chance of keeping him would be a loan deal for next season.”

Verdict

Kent has scored six goals and registered six assists in 22 league appearances for the Gers [Transfermarkt].
Those are hardly earth-shattering statistics, but he has been near unplayable at his best. He appears to have an appetite for the big matches too, starring in the two most recent clashes against Celtic.

McCoist is right, though, in that those displays may have indirectly put a spanner in the works for Rangers.

With Liverpool reportedly asking for in excess of £12m [Liverpool Echo], a permanent deal looks fanciful.
He’s contracted to the Reds until 2022, though, so if they are in no hurry to make a final decision, another loan stint could be on the cards.
