Former England manager and the former boss of Rangers manager Steven Gerrard Sven-Göran Eriksson is reportedly “interested” in becoming the next manager of Aberdeen.
According to the Daily Record, the 73-year-old manager wants a head role at Rangers’ Scottish Premiership rivals in a potentially fascinating move to Scotland.
Eriksson has been out of work ever since leaving as manager of the Philippines in 2019 but boasts an impressive C.V. with some of the biggest clubs in football.
The Swedish gaffer has taken charge of the likes of Benfica, Roma, Fiorentina, Sampdoria, Lazio, Man City and Leicester City in an impressive career in management which started in the late 1970s.
But Eriksson is best known on these shores for being the manager of Auld Enemy England where he coached now Rangers manager Gerrard over a period of five years.
Then playing for Liverpool, Gerrard was a mainstay in Eriksson’s England squads and made over 35 of his 114 England caps during Eriksson’s tenure.
The Ibrox Gaffer also went to both the 2004 European Championships and 2006 FIFA World Cup with the Swedish manager
Eriksson has also managed other international sides such as Mexico and the Ivory Coast whilst his most recent spells in club management were in the Chinese Super League.
Aberdeen boss and ex-Rangers star Derek McInnes left Pittodrie earlier in the week following almost eight years in charge at the club.
Rangers felt it was the latest example of the “Gerrard effect” as the Ibrox gaffer became the longest-serving first-team manager in the Scottish top-flight.
