A Daily Record report has credited five clubs with interest in signing Rangers starlet Josh McPake on loan for the second half of the season.
McPake is currently on loan at Morecambe in EFL League One but hasn’t featured since late September due to injury.
He’s due to remain at the Mazuma Stadium until the end of the campaign, but it’s claimed that Rangers are likely to recall him before swiftly sending him out elsewhere in a bid to get him back playing as soon as possible.
The Daily Record report credits EFL League Two clubs Salford City, Tranmere Rovers and AFC Barrow – Andy Firth’s old club – with interest, while it’s also suggested that Scottish Premiership sides Motherwell and Ross County would both be interested if the winger became available.
It’s asserted that Gers sporting director Ross Wilson is currently weighing up his options as the transfer window nears.
Rangers set to recall McPake amid multi-club interest
If McPake is closing in on full fitness but is unlikely to feature at Morecambe in the near future, it would be the right call to end his stint with the Shrimps.
It’s crucial that the 20-year-old plays regularly over the second half of the campaign in order to make up for the time lost in recent months due to injury.
The report suggests a short-term loan to a fourth-tier English club is the most likely end result but surely it would be more beneficial for McPake to join a Scottish top-flight side.
The Scotland youth international spent six months in EFL League Two last season with Harrogate Town and if he’s ever going to make it at Ibrox, it’s crucial that he starts getting minutes under his belt at a higher level.
Meanwhile, a Rangers star is currently walking a suspension tightrope.
