Rangers legend Fernando Ricksen has backed Steven Gerrard and urged supporters to be patient with the new manager.
Speaking in an emotional message to fans, the ALS/Motor Neurone struck former Dutch international answered fan questions. Using a special eye computer Ricksen managed to give his thoughts on the Gerrard revolution.
The technology allows Ricksen, who can no longer talk, to communicate. He took this chance to answer the question on every Rangers’ fans lips. Is Steven Gerrard the man to take the club forward?
Support vital to success
Fernando Ricksen has expressed the need for patience with Gerrard, saying that the support of the fans is vital to any success.
“I think we have the right man for the right job. A young enthusiastic coach with a lot of experience as a leader on the pitch.
But we have to be careful that we don’t expect too much too quickly. Let’s give him the time and support to build a team that will dominate for a long time domestically and in Europe. I’m convinced that he can do that if given the right support.”

Support vital to Ricksen’s success
Fernando Ricksen is a Rangers icon and the struggle he is going through with MND has touched bluenoses and other fans across the globe.
The support he gets from Rangers fans is very touching, and you can see how much it mean to him.
But the support he got as a player was just as big to Ricksen. He said:
“I still remember when I came to Rangers and how I struggled the first season. If it wasn’t for your support and belief we would never have gotten Helticopter Sunday and we all remember that as one of the best days in Rangers history.
For now I want to wish Steven Gerrard the very best and ask every Bluenose to give him the support he needs.”
Ricksen played over 180 league games for Rangers and won seven major trophies. He also even captained the club.
