Barry Ferguson has claimed in the Daily Record, that two players already at Ibrox, are key to Steven Gerrard’s hopes of future success.
The Gers are on a three-match winning streak, during which they’ve scored nine times and conceded just once.
The ex-skipper thinks it’s no coincidence that two January signings have started all three matches.
“As far as I’m concerned, the last three wins have given Gerrard his blueprint for next season and Davis and Jermain Defoe should be absolutely key to it,” wrote Ferguson in the Record.
“You are seeing Davo running games of football from the middle of the park. He adds genuine quality and control to the engine room of the team and, as a midfield player myself, I firmly believe that’s where games are won and lost.
“Obviously, scoring goals is also a big part of that and Defoe is proving that he’s as sharp in that department as he ever was. Let’s put it this way, now that the two of them are at peak fitness, Rangers look like a different team.
‘All in all, Rangers just look in a far better place with Davis and Defoe in the team as they have added an entirely new dimension and a wealth of game intelligence. You can’t put a price on stuff like that.”

Verdict
There can be no denying that there’s been a change in approach from Rangers over the last number of weeks.
There appears to be a better understanding between the players and more fluidity in attack.
As stand out performers over that period, there’s also no doubt Davis and Defoe have played their part.
However, bigger tests are yet to come.
The Gers had already beaten Hearts twice and thrashed Motherwell 7-1 back in November. It’s Aberdeen, Celtic, Hibs, and Killie who they have struggled to beat this season.
Therefore, only after the final games of the season, can we say for certain, what the new shape and personnel has really changed.
