Fed up pundit demands end to unfair criticism and ‘same stick to beat Rangers with’

Rangers swept Kilmarnock aside in midweek to add to their romp in France last week.

Philippe Clement’s troops battered Derek McInnes’ beleaguered squad in what was a convincing 6-0 victory at Ibrox thanks to five different scorers on an evening where everything clicked together.

It came after Gers’ equally brilliant 4-1 win over Ligue 1’s Nice in the Europa League stunned the French outfit and had travelling punters in dreamland.

Sandwiched between those results was a narrow yet satisfying 1-0 win over St Johnstone to make it three wins from three for Clement and his improving players.

Speaking on Open Goal’s Keeping the Ball on the Ground podcast, former Light Blues striker Gordon Dalziel paid tribute to his old club having watched them come out the other side of a previously poor run of form.

Rangers sit third in the Scottish Premiership table and that has had critics and pundits questioning their mettle for a title race this campaign.

But proud Dalziel has been sick and tired of the same old rhetoric that even when Gers do win and do so well, it must be more down to the opposition putting in a poor performance.

That is why the 62-year-old has demanded an end to the unfair stick Gers have come in for even in the aftermath of monumental victories like the one against Killie.

Dalziel believes Clement and his troops should be given the credit they deserve, instead.

“I think the way Rangers played last night they looked very good from the highlights.

“The passing, the movement,” Dalziel said.

“And I hate this just now with Rangers, and they get beat with the big same stick. People will go, ‘Nice were hopeless.

“Oh, what about Kilmarnock, they were poor last night’.

“Sometimes you’ve got to give Rangers a bit of credit. It’s been a great week for them.”
