Failed Gerrard signing could be relegated following Rangers exit

It would be fair to say Ovie Ejaria hasn’t had the most impressive of seasons.
He was brought to Rangers on a season-long loan by Steven Gerrard back in July. As the former Head of the Academy system at Liverpool, the Gers manager had the insight track on his former club’s brightest talents.

Based on his prior knowledge, he clearly thought Ejaria could make a big impact at Rangers.
However, it simply didn’t work out. It wasn’t for a lack of opportunities, either.
Given the no.10 shirt, the 21-year-old made 28 Gers appearances but only managed two goals and registered one assist in the SPL.

He didn’t provide anywhere near the creativity required in the final third to justify a place in the team.

Second loan spell could end in relegation

Yet, it was still a little surprising that he packed it in early and headed back to his parent club in December.
A January move to Reading followed and since then, things haven’t got much better.
There’s been a marginal improvement in terms of effectiveness. Ejaria has one goal and two assists in ten Championship matches, so far.
However, he’s been powerless to stop the Royals sliding towards the drop zone.
On 40, they are currently just a single point clear of Rotherham wh currently occupy the last relegation spot.

The fixtures aren’t getting any easier, either. They travel to seemingly Premier League-bound Norwich City on Wednesday night.
If Ejaria can play a big role over the last few games to keep his latest adopted side in the second tier, it would go some way to salvaging his season.
So far though, across his stints at Rangers and back in England, it has been a poor showing.
