The agent of CSKA Sofia midfielder and Bulgarian international Kristiyan Malinov has been contacting people of influence within Scottish football to broker a transfer to Rangers.
According to sources close to Rangers News, Ibrox is the midfielder’s “preferred destination” despite reported interest from Holland, Belgium, Germany and Turkey.
Rangers were first linked to Malinov, 26, in reports from Bulgaria earlier in July [7 Sport].
The news comes after Malinov’s agent revealed he was in “daily contact” with Rangers over a potential move to the club, even if they are “keeping their options open”.
“Yes there have been talks with Rangers regarding Kristiyan. Have Rangers sent an offer yet? No,” Malinov’s representatives told the Herald.
“We are in talks and there is an interest but deals can’t be done through the night as there are many factors that we must take into consideration.
“It is too soon to say if a deal will happen between Kristiyan and Rangers. Kristiyan is privileged by the interest of Rangers but there are also other clubs who are interested.
“We have to speak with those who have shown interest in Kristiyan and we are keeping all our options open.”
Malinov’s eagerness to move to Ibrox will be a positive sign for Rangers fans with the industrious 13-cap Bulgarian one of a number of midfielders linked with Ibrox.
But with talks reportedly continuing and Rangers “closing in” on a £3.5m deal for Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu [Scotsman], it remains to be seen if the Ibrox club will make the interest concrete.
What is clear however is that Malinov’s representatives are working very hard to try and broker a move to Ibrox.
According to reports in Bulgaria, Rangers would need to spend around €2m to bring Malinov to Scotland.
