Exclusive: Czech journo makes bold Rangers Leicester claim ahead of Slavia clash

A leading Czech football journalist has claimed that Rangers are a more “dangerous opponent than Leicester City” for Europa League opponents Slavia Prague.

Speaking exclusively to Rangers News, Jan Podroužek is the head football writer for the Czech Republic’s Daily News or iSport.cz.

The passionate football man has been following Slavia’s rise under manager Jindřich Trpišovský and believes that even though they dumped Leicester City, they face a sterner test in Glasgow.

The reason for this is in the unpredictability of Rangers’ attack compared to the fact Leicester were a more predictable outfit tactically.

Podroužek also believes that whilst Slavia fans are hopeful Rangers will possess a strong threat in the Europa League Last 16 tie.

“After the draw, many Slavia supporters said it was a good draw, hopeful draw, promising draw,” said Jan.

“Especially after beating Leicester from the top of the English Premier League, as you can understand.

“There was a question on Trpišovský after Leicester if the team could win the Europa League, I don’t know, maybe still not.

“But this (Rangers) is a very complicated draw in my opinion, because Leicester is very strictly in it’s style of play.

“They’re very direct in defence and very good tactically but Rangers are very dangerous in attack, so I think that this is a very dangerous draw.

“For me, I have an opinion – not like the supporters – that the power of Rangers I very, very dangerous, especially in attack.

“I think Slavia could have a huge problem with the attack of Rangers.

“This is the problem of this match between Slavia and Rangers; how do they contain Rangers?

“If Slavia can do it – I think they can go through – but Rangers’ attack is a problem, so I think Rangers are a more dangerous opponent than Leicester City for Slavia Prague.”

Rangers have reached the Last 16 for the second season in a row whilst Slavia went one further in 18/19 and reached the Champions League group stages last season.

Rangers come into the match after a weekend of celebrations after the club secured its 55^th league title and first for a decade but Steven Gerrard has demanded they’re “ready” for the clash.
