Exciting Rangers teenager Alex Lowry was spotted in first-team training on Wednesday as preparations are ramped up for the return of matches.

Scotland youth international Lowry is arguably the most talented player in the Rangers Academy right now and is one of three young players we picked to watch out for in 2022.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder has excellent vision, passing ability and set-piece prowess, ensuring he’s shone in the Lowland League this season.

He often looks a cut above those around him and while he has some filling out to do and the defensive side of his game needs more work, he may not be far away from following in the footsteps of Leon King and making a permanent step up to the senior group.

Rangers released a training video on Wednesday, with the primary intention of showing fans some footage of new signing James Sands working hard at the Rangers Training Centre.

However, supporters will also have been looking out for who else was involved.

Lowry looked to be taking full part in the session, the day after scoring for the B team in a victory over SPFL League Two side Cowdenbeath.

He’s likely to rejoin the B-team squad ahead of their Lowland League clash with Caledonian Braves at the weekend and almost certainly won’t be involved in Rangers’ first match back following the winter break against Aberdeen on Tuesday night.

However, there is a chance that he could make his senior debut in the Scottish Cup Fourth Round tie against Stirling Albion three days later.

Gio van Bronckhorst is likely to use the tie to have a look at fringe and emerging players and Lowry deserves a chance after consistently impressing against clubs at a similar level to the fourth-tier Binos this season.

Meanwhile, another talented Rangers midfielder has joined a ‘unique’ club on loan until the end of the season.
