Exciting Rangers summer signing Fashion Sakala has cleared up confusion about his preferred position and stated his mission at Ibrox [Rangers FC Twitter].
Sakala arrived from KV Oostende ahead of the 2021/22 campaign and scored his first competitive goal for the club on Sunday against Motherwell.
He’s made a relatively slow start to his Gers career but much of the blame for that can be put on a groin issue that saw him miss a number of domestic and European fixtures.
Much has been made of the Zambia international’s versatility but during Tuesday’s press conference ahead of a League Cup quarter-final against Livingston, he stated his preferred role and explained what he wants to achieve during his time at the club.
“A striker is my position but I can switch across the front three and also as a winger,” he said [Rangers FC Twitter]. “Both positions are good for me.”
“My mission is all to help the team, to deliver is important not only for me but for all of our strikers. It is very important for us to score and help the team to win games.
“I’m very happy and excited from the time I arrived. The injury is the only slight problem since I arrived but I am back to full fitness and I think I have a lot to offer the club.”
Rangers fans warmed to Sakala even before he arrived in the UK after hearing his remarkable backstory.
He still has plenty to prove on the pitch and his stats elsewhere suggest he isn’t quite as prolific as fellow Ibrox striker Alfredo Morelos.
However, at 24, he isn’t yet the finished article and there’s every chance he could become an Ibrox cult hero if he stays injury-free and is given sufficient playing time over the next few years.
Here’s how Sakala and his Rangers teammates are rated on the soon-to-be-released FIFA 22.
