Ex-rival’s double proves Rangers are right to demand Morelos megabucks

As Rangers hold out for close to £20m for star striker Alfredo Morelos, Celtic are being proved right to have held out for megabucks for a former Ibrox rival.

Ligue 1 Lyon spent around £20m to take Moussa Dembele to the Groupama Stadium from our Old Firm rivals back in 2018 and since then he’s gone from strength to strength in France.

This week the striker wrote himself into Lyon legend as the French forward’s double downed moneybags Manchester City to book the club a place in the Champions League semi-finals.

Rangers might’ve beaten Lyon 2-0 in pre-season but it was a much-changed team which dumped Pep Guardiola’s side out of Europe.

Manchester City went into the tie big favourites but fell behind in the first half to a Maxwell Cornet goals and struggled to recover.

Kevin de Bruyne might’ve got the English Premier League side level but Moussa Dembele would change the game after being subbed on in the second half.

The big striker fired in a late double as Lyon ran out 3-1 winners, proving his worth to the French outfit and probably going someway to repaying the £20m transfer fee.

Whilst there is absolutely no guarantee the same would happen with Colombian international Morelos, Rangers cannot undervalue the striker.

Morelos has proven time and again to be a top European striker – at least at Europa League level – and his ability to step up on the continental stage makes him gold dust for the Gers.

Celtic got their Dembele Dollars for their star man and he’s gone on to prove his worth.

Rangers must demand similar Morelos Money because the Ibrox man has the potential to do exactly the same.
