Ex-Rangers winger named alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in special XI

Former Rangers star Daniel Candeias took to Twitter to celebrate being named alongside world footballing legend Cristiano Ronaldo in a special Portuguese XI.

The former Ibrox right-winger grabbed the headlines at the weekend as he netted a hat-trick and two assists for new side Gençlerbirliği as the Turkish side hammered Antalyaspor 6-0.

It’s a performance that saw earn a 10/10 and be named in a special Portuguese team of the week.

Candeias was the highest-rated player in the side which includes the likes of Juventus’ Ronaldo, who moved to the Italian club for £88m, Joao Mario of Lokomotiv Moscow and Jose Fonte of Lille.

A fan favourite at Ibrox, Candeias made 54 appearances for the club last season but with playing time set to be limited at Rangers he moved on in the summer.

It’s something which rankled with some supporters at the time and obviously after such a sterling performance in Turkey may well do again.

Candeias was also named Rangers’ Player of the Year at the club’s annual awards at the end of the 17/18 season with his hardworking performances endearing him to fans.

Rangers have since invested heavily in the wide positions with the likes of Jordan Jones, Brandon Barker and Sheyi Ojo coming in and Ryan Kent signing a permanent deal.

But have we ever truly replaced the influence of Daniel Candeias?
