Ex-Rangers striker Ross McCormack celebrates Aston Villa pay increase

To most Rangers fans Ross McCormack was a talented youth prospect, who despite some stellar showings, was never quite good enough to make the grade at Ibrox.
But such has been his journey post-Govan, many would be forgiven for giving off a little envy. This is a player who has amassed over £23m in transfer fees. Someone who Rangers let leave the club for nothing in 2006. That’s money we could’ve used.
But if Gers fans weren’t jealous of the monumental fees he was moving for down south, they will be of his brand-new wage. Especially when you consider how little he must do for it.

Yes, after his parent club Aston Villa earned promotion, McCormack got a pay rise. He’ll now earn £70k a week for well, doing pretty much nothing. Not bad for the boy, and a smart move to insert the clause by his agent.
Most recently Villa have farmed him out to Australia – where he enjoyed strong success – and Motherwell – where he didn’t.

The notion that he is a £70k a week player is outrageous and more than anything sums up the madness of Villa over the last few seasons. He hasn’t even played for the club since 2017.
Ross McCormack has a year left and you can bet he’ll be in no rush to get out the door. Would you be?

The striker, now 32, has found himself out of favour at Villa Park and his future remains uncertain.
But going by his recent loan moves, Rangers fans will be glad we never moved for the striker in January [TEAMtalk].
