Former Rangers loanee Florian Kamberi looks Europe-bound as he set to join Swiss side St. Gallen as a replacement for Rangers new-boy Cedric Itten.
The Ibrox club was routinely linked with Kamberi throughout the transfer window but according to the Glasgow Times, the Hibs striker will head to Switzerland for £150k as Itten heads to Scotland.
But the move points out flaws in coverage of Rangers coming out of the Scottish Sun yesterday concerning the move.
The newspaper claimed that Kamberi turned down a two-year deal because of the terms on offer from Rangers.
It also claims that the “snub” left Rangers “assessing other striker targets” before the club announced the signings of Itten and fellow forward Kemar Roofe later in the day.
Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson also confirmed that the Itter deal was agreed “just over a week ago” but the club wanted to be “respectful” of the Swiss Super League season-ending.
Rangers club insider Heart & Hand would then describe the Kamberi Scottish Sun report as a “total fallacy” and “100%” false.
They are also adamant that Kamberi was never offered a deal by Rangers and were not interested in the player.
It appears that the Sun aimed to generate some hysteria around Kamberi’s move to St. Gallen and make out that his apparent rejection of a move to Rangers was a major blow.
However, it appears they never knew that the reason Kamberi would be moving to St. Gallen was because Rangers would be signing the top goalscorer of the Swiss top tier’s second-placed side.
It would appear that Kamberi has been signed by St. Gallen as a replacement for their star player moving on to Rangers.
Swiss international Itten, 23, is also player too of a considerably higher calibre than the Hibs man Kamberi.
