Former Rangers youngster Nathan Patterson was surprisingly left out of the Everton squad for the afternoon match against Aston Villa in the Premier League as Duncan Ferguson took charge of the toffees.
Everton lost 1-0 as they continue their poor run of form and they are languishing in 16th position, just five points from a relegation spot.
There were hopes that Ferguson would give Patterson a start, or at least bring him off the bench at some point during the tie. This was dashed before the match as it was revealed he wasn’t even in the squad.
Nathan Patterson is yet to feature for Everton
The young Scot moved to the Goodison Park outfit early in the transfer window, as Rangers received a club-record fee for the player in what is an incredible move.
He was included on the bench for Everton’s win over Hull in the FA Cup and their league defeat to Norwich in what proved to be the last match in charge for Rafa Benitez.
The ever-likable big Dunc was placed in caretaker charge as the club seek to find a permanent replacement for the Spaniard.
As the news of the former striker’s appointment, there were hopes that the Scottish connection would be a massive boost to Patterson’s chances of featuring regularly and proving to the club why they spent so much on bringing him down south.
This omission is strange and even worse so was that a former Celtic loanee started at right-back. Jonjoe Kenny, who played on loan as the side failed to stop our relentless march to the league title last season.
Hopefully, this result proves to be a blessing in disguise for Patterson, as Ferguson may rejig the starting XI and finally give the young defender the chance he has been waiting for.
