Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae has tipped ex-Ibrox defender Kevin Muscat to take over at Ibrox after he took over from now Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou at Yokohama F Marinos.
The Aussie coach has just guided the Japanese club to the J-League title and has been mentioned as one of the frontrunners to succeed Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Ibrox.

The Gers have parted ways with the Dutch coach after an abysmal campaign saw the club collapse in the Champions League and fall nine points behind Celtic in the title race.
According to the Daily Record, ex-Rangers star Kevin Muscat is amongst four names linked to the role, with ex-manager Steven Gerrard, former assistant Michael Beale and ex-Burnley boss Sean Dyche all mentioned.
Kevin Muscat tipped for Rangers job
Alex Rae, who played with Kevin Muscat during his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers, has tipped the Aussie to be amongst the frontrunners for the role.
“There’s been a lot of speculation, my old teammate Kevin Muscat who just won the title in Japan, he’s been linked as well,” said Rae.
“Muscat will be very much in tune with the transfer market and the J-League, which is something Rangers might consider to connect with a different market.
“The one thing about Muscat, he is familiar with Rangers being a former player. It’s an interesting one, it boils down to what the criteria is and what Rangers are looking for.
“If Rangers are looking to explore different markets, then Muscat will be the front-runner for the job. Some of the Japanese players who came to Celtic who have done really well and hit the ground running, at a reasonable price, so if that’s what Rangers want to do then Muscat will be the priority.”
Kevin Muscat was a treble winner for Rangers in 02/03, playing for the club for one season with his fiery character leaving an impression on the fans.
Now in his third job in managemeant after taking over from Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou at Yokohama F Marinos, the former defender has also managed Melbourne Victory in Australia and Sint-Truiden in Belgium.
Speaking of the Rangers manager’s job, here’s who has been installed as the early favourite.
