Ex-Rangers star Ross McCrorie finds himself at the centre of red card controversy for Aberdeen as the managerless Dons lose to St Mirren.
The Pittodrie club are without a full-time boss after sacking Jim Goodwin with ex-Aberdeen midfielder Barry Robson and former Sunderland star Steve Agnew taking the team.
But following the Scottish Cup humiliation to Darvel and a 6-0 humbling at the hands of Hibs, things have gone from bad to worse with a 3-1 defeat to St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.
However, the latest disastrous result for Aberdeen might’ve been avoidable had Ross McCrorie not been controversially shown red after only seven minutes in the Scottish northeast.
The ex-Rangers defender was sent off by Graham Grainger in the early stages of the match following a clash with St Mirren defender Charlie Dunne.
The red card was shown after Ross McCrorie tapped the ball past Dunne and tried to get around him, with the referee probably feeling the Aberdeen star lashed out at his Saints rival.
This controversial decision had a sizeable bearing on the game, with Aberdeen going on to lose 3-1 courtesy of a St Mirren double from Curtis Main either side of a Bojan Miovski equaliser, with Declan Gallagher rounding off the scoring.
Ross McCrorie sees red for Aberdeen
Stand-in Aberdeen boss Robson claimed he hadn’t watched the moment back in his post-match interview.
“I’ve not seen it back so I’m not going to comment but when it happened I turned to Steve and presumed it was a free kick to us,” said Robson.
“For me it’s a free-kick and what happens after I can’t comment.
”Then you’re seven minutes in and your most experienced defender and best speed gone from your team and your game plan is gone.
“After that we were outstanding, especially for 70 minutes. I’ve not spoken to Ross. I addressed all the players and I’ll look back at the game.
“He’s deliberately went in front of him and tried to stop him in the first place so it’s an argument either way. I’m not happy we lost the game but if you’re asking a team from where they’ve been to come back to 1-1 I was proud of them.”
Rangers academy graduate Ross McCrorie initially moved to Aberdeen on loan at the beginning of the 20/21 season and made the switch permanent in the January, with Scott Wright moving the other way after agreeing a pre-contract.
A utility man for Rangers who played at centre-back, right-back and in midfield, the now 24-year-old made 55 appearances for the Ibrox club after making his Gers debut in September 2017.
As Ross McCrorie was seeing red for Aberdeen, Rangers were dispatching Scotland’s third force Hearts.
