Former Rangers player Ross McCrorie has had his move from Aberdeen to Bristol City confirmed but the Championship side’s announcement has raised a few eyebrows.
The 25-year old twin of goalkeeper Robby has been called up to the Scotland squad, however, The Robins social media team had the utility man sunning himself in an entirely different location this week.
With Love Island starting, the obvious way for Rangers youth product Ross McCrorie to be revealed as a new Bristol City player was, of course, with Maya Jama presenting him to the shocked contestants in a video that now has over 1m views.
Ross McCrorie, obviously, wasn’t in the real Love Island villa but he deserves a degree of kudos for his acting skills.
Thankfully, he is a better footballer though.
Ex-Rangers star Ross McCrorie climbs back up the ladder
The deal to Bristol City will see Rangers land 10% of a fee that could fetch £3m or more according to reports and is a good move for the player tipped to be a future captain at Ibrox.
If Rangers and Steven Gerrard had their way Ross McCrorie would still be at the club but regular game time couldn’t be guaranteed and an eventual swap deal for Scott Wright was agreed.
Being able to play at right-back, centre-half and in midfield makes McCrorie an international manager’s dream, especially one that likes to play with three at the back.

He has had a solid season and skippered Aberdeen too after his promotion from vice-captain.
The Auchenhowie graduate now has to nail down one position if he is to fulfill his potential though.
Ironically, Gerrard claimed early in his time at Rangers boss that McCrorie was never a centre-half and that he saw his future as a destroyer in midfield.
McCrorie’s best games for Rangers came in the engine room, where he would have been useful this season, however, centre-half appears to be his natural home, or at right-back in a defensive four.
When Ross McCrorie took the decision to take a step down to Aberdeen it was a brave one, but it now looks like he is climbing his way back up the footballing ladder.
You never know, maybe one day he’ll find himself back at the spiritual home where he originally found love.
