Ex-Rangers star moves to Fiorentina amid reported interest from Juventus

Former Rangers star Gennaro “Rino” Gattuso has joined Fiorentina as manager just days after being sacked by Serie A rivals Napoli.

Rino’s time at the Diego Maradona Stadium looked to be up earlier in the campaign and the writing was on the wall as soon as Napoli failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Gattuso, 43, saw his side draw 1-1 with Hellas Verona to hand the 4th and final Champions League place to Juventus before Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis took to Twitter.

The outspoken Napoli chief would send a message relieving Gattuso of his duties and wishing him and his family all the best.

But Gattuso remains highly thought of in the Italian game, something evidenced by his swift appointment at Fiorentina this week.

The former AC Milan and Italy midfielder will now go to work with the Viola as they look to improve on a mid-table finish from this season.

Gattuso’s move to Fiorentina also comes amid reported interest from Serie A giants Juventus, who’ve had a troublesome season in Italy.

Despite pipping Napoli to a Champions League spot in the end, Gattuso had reportedly been linked to the Old Lady as a potential replacement for former teammate and Juve boss Andrea Pirlo.

Football Italia had the feisty Italian named as a potential replacement for Pirlo should he be sacked this summer but instead Rino will take charge of Fiorentina next season.

This will be Rino’s seventh job in management having previously taken charge of Sion, Palermo, OFI Crete, Pisa, AC Milan and of course Napoli in his managerial career.

Here’s more on Gattuso’s exit from Napoli as the former Rangers star quickly gets back into management in his home country.
