Ex-Rangers star Juninho Bacuna played the entire match for Curacao as they were on the receiving end of a 7-0 Lionel Messi hattrick-inspired battering from Argentina.

The World Cup winners were in relentless form to dish out one of the biggest humblings of the international weekend with the little genius on song once again in Santiago del Estero.

Lionel Messi might be 35-years-old but the PSG still has magic in his boots and showed it once agains with a stunning first-half hattrick.

But that wasn’t all that was to come for ex-Rangers midfielder Juninho Bacuna, as Curacao went into the break 5-0 down courtesy of goals from Nicolas Gonzalez and Enzo Fernandez.

The second half wouldn’t be much better, with Angel Di Maria and Gabriel Montiel rounding off the scoring with the game ending Argentina 7 Curacao 0.

Ex-Rangers Curacao star Juninho Bacuna suffers v Argentina

Juninho Bacuna, who now turns out for Birmingham City, played every minute of the demoralising encounter, with his brother Leandro also starting in the match.

The midfielder joined Rangers late in the summer of 2021 but failed to make an impact and despite the signing being a Steven Gerrard recommendation, Bacuna remains on a list of Ross Wilson flops.

The Rangers sporting director is under pressure amid protests at Ibrox and ahead of a big summer will face greater scrutiny than ever to get the right deals done.

Especially since Michael Beale heaped the pressure on Ross Wilson by claiming he’s already handed over a list of targets.

Juninho Bacuna would be signed on a creative deal from Huddersfield, with Rangers not paying a transfer fee before selling the Dutch born midfielder on for a profit to Birmingham.

But as Curacao get battered by a Lionel Messi hattrick and Argentina, Ross Wilson might not like to see a reminder of ex-Rangers star Juninho Bacuna who stands out amongst the biggest flops of the last few seasons.
