Ex-Rangers midfielder Joey Barton claims he “did not always get every decision right” after being sacked by English League One club Bristol Rovers.
The 41-year-old Englishman has been relieved of his duties at the Memorial Stadium with the club 16th in the English third flight and with only one win in the last five matches.
In a statement to supporters, Bristol Rovers thanked Joey Barton for his work for the club and wished him well for the future after being sacked from his second top management job.
Taking to the platform formerly known as Twitter in the aftermath of the decision, the former Rangers star thanked the Bristol Rovers fans but in his own style also claimed he’d left the club in better shape than he found it.
The post on X reads:
“What a journey we have been on as a club. We created some amazing memories, achieving promotion and that 7-0 victory are days my family and I will never forget.
“To the fans, thanks for your patience with me, I did not always get every decision right but I made them all with the best intentions.
“Most importantly, this club is now in an amazing position to move forward, and in a much stronger position than when I arrived.”
Ex-Rangers star Joey Barton sacked from Bristol Rovers
Joey Barton remains a figure of criticism and controversy ever since leaving Rangers following a brief stint at the club in 2016.
Having signed on as Mark Warburton’s marquee post Premiership promotion signing in the summer, the ex-Burnley midfielder was all talk as he toiled in Glasgow.
Finding himself at the centre of a now legendary bust-up with Mark Warburton following a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Celtic, the midfielder was released from his contract in Glasgow.
Since then there have been soundbites aplenty and – if you ask me – the former midfielder has never quite produced enough in pretty much any sense to be so aggressively confident.

The best Rangers players are judged on what they do and not on what they say and that’s why it’ll come as no surprise to the Ibrox support that Joey Barton has been sacked as Bristol Rovers manager.
But credit where it is due; Joey Barton got the Pirates promoted from League Two last season following a dramatic 7-0 victory over Scunthorpe United on the final day of the season.
This was after he’d failed to prevent their relegation the season before, right enough.
