Former Rangers striker Jason Cummings is considering switching his international allegiances from Scotland to Australia, according to comments he made to the Scottish Sun.

The Scottish paper claims that Cummings – who’s played for Scotland twice but only in friendlies – was considering playing for the Socceroos through his Australian mum.

The former Gers cult hero admits that he’d love to play for Scotland again, but if the chance isn’t going to come, he’d rather try his luck down under.

“I’d love to get back with Scotland — but if I’m not going to get called up, I need to take my opportunity elsewhere,” said Cummings.

“My mum is Australian and I’ve already had talks with their assistant manager, Rene Meulensteen.

“I have spoken to him a lot along with manager Graham Arnold. I can play for them because my two Scotland games were friendlies.

“But I was born in Scotland and obviously that would be my first choice. I’ll make a decision in the next month or so.”

Cummings is now playing for League One Shrewsbury as the 24-year-old looks to cement his place at one club.

Since leaving Hibs back in 2017, Cummings has struggled to settle in English football.

Loan spells with Rangers, Peterborough and Luton have cut up what’s been a difficult few years in England with Nottingham Forest.

If Cummings wants to get into the international set-up anywhere – be it for Scotland or Australia – then he needs to keep getting on the scoresheet.

Cumdog netted on his debut for the Shropshire club as they drew 1-1 with AFC Wimbledon at the weekend.

Cummings isn’t the first Rangers linked player to be torn between Scotland and Australia either.
