Former Rangers midfielder Aaron Ramsey has sent a message to ex-Real Madrid hero Gareth Bale following the Wales international retiring from playing football.
The former Spurs winger took to social media to announce his retirement at the age of 33 with the talented left-winger last turning out for Los Angeles FC.
Considered one of the greatest players of his generation and one of the best British footballers of all time, Gareth Bale retires from the game having won five Champions League trophies with Real Madrid.
The attacker also won three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, three UEFA Super Cups and three World Club Cups after his switch to the Spanish capital for a reported £85m in 2013 [BBC Sport].
A then world record fee, it shows the standing Gareth Bale had in the game during his time at Spurs with the winger exploding onto the world stage with a range of free-scoring performances for the north London club.
Starting his career at Southampton, Gareth Bale also turned out in the US briefly but will now look to pursue other interests after a stellar career.
Aaron Ramsey pays tribute to Gareth Bale
Alongside ex-Arsenal, Juventus and Rangers midfielder Aaron Ramsey, the attacker was one of two figureheads for the recent development of football at international level for Wales.
Earning 111 caps for his country and scoring 41 goals, Bale has been been central to Welsh qualification for the Euros and World Cup and the winger’s decision to retire comes after the tournament in Qatar.
Taking to social media, close friend Aaron Ramsey has toasted the attacker and praised Bale for the “special moments” they shared playing for their country.
Ex-Rangers midfielder Aaron Ramsey now turns out for OGC Nice in Ligue 1 but unfortunately the Ibrox support remember the midfielder for the wrong reasons.
Ramsey missed the decisive penalty at the end of last season’s Europa League Final, with the club losing 5-4 after a 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Meanwhile, Rangers have reportedly taken a decision on the short-term future of one under-fire Ibrox star.
