Rangers didn’t really see the best of Ovie Ejaria and the playmaker’s carer has now taken another turn having been released by Reading.
The arrival of Steven Gerrard as Rangers manager back in 2018 was always likely to spark the arrival of players with Liverpool connections.
Sure enough, defender Jon Flanagan joined on a free transfer whilst two Reds talents joined on loan.
Ryan Kent arrived in July 2018 and ended up staying for five years having joined permanently in 2019.
The first Liverpool arrival was actually Ovie Ejaria, who joined on a season-long loan but only lasted a matter of months.
Ovie Ejaria axed by Reading almost five years to the day since Rangers exit
Former Arsenal talent Ejaria arrived with some decent hype behind and he enjoyed a decent start to life at Rangers.
The playmaker hit goals against Motherwell and Ufa in his opening weeks at Rangers but he was sent back to Liverpool by December.
Gerrard indicated that the decision was totally down to Ejaria and he ended up joining Reading on loan just a few weeks later.
Ejaria ended up signing permanently in a deal worth up to £3.5million and he seemed to really find a home in Berkshire.
The 26-year-old has racked up more than 120 appearances for Reading, hitting nine goals and 13 assists.
Ejaria hasn’t played for Reading at all this season with injuries and attitude highlighted as problems by boss Ruben Selles.
Reading have now confirmed that Ejaria has left the club by mutual consent, ripping up his contract amid the club’s ongoing financial issues.
Ejaria has bags of talent in his locker; we saw that in glimpses at Rangers.
We can’t really recommend a return to Ibrox but if Ejaria can get fully fit and focused, we can certainly see him shining elsewhere.
Ejaria certainly isn’t finished at just 26, but his next move needs to be the right one in order to get back on track.
