Rangers legend Barry Ferguson is adamant that Celtic shouldn’t be awarded a league title in the event of the domestic season being ended prematurely.

The iconic Rangers midfielder has previously spoken about feeling uncomfortable with the idea Celtic could be awarded the title despite the league season being unfinished[Daily Record].

But in his most recent Daily Record column Ferguson suggests that with his Kelty Hearts side sitting top of the Lowland League, he doesn’t want them to be awarded that title early either.

It’s a bold statement from the manager of a club leading in their respective division.

Despite being a Rangers legend, Ferguson is adamant that his association with Ibrox has nothing to do with his viewpoint and that Celtic must win the title fair and square on the pitch.

“For what it’s worth, if it was down to me I’d use this moment to reconstruct the leagues. I’d promote two teams from every division so that the relegation issue is no longer an argument,” writes Ferguson [Daily Record].

“I still believe strongly that the season cannot be declared null and void but I also feel that titles have to be won fair and square on the pitch.

“I realise Celtic fans will be up in arms at the suggestion and they’ll say I’m just looking at this through blue-tinted specs.

“As a matter of fact, they’d be wrong. I’m sitting top of the Lowland League with Kelty Hearts right now and I don’t want to be awarded with a title that we didn’t win.”

Barry Ferguson knows all about winning league titles having secured five of them during two spells at Rangers.

For him, being awarded a title early clearly cheapens the value of it but Ferguson has urged perspective for Scottish fans in the coming months.
