Gio van Bronckhorst lasted just a year in charge of Rangers despite taking the team to a Europa League final.
The Dutchman had fallen nine points behind Celtic in the title race by November 2022 and it was decided there wasn’t enough credit in the back from that glorious run in Europe to keep him in a job.
On top of too many dropped points in the league, Gers had a dismal record in the Champions League. Even though it was a tricky group, the team simply didn’t compete well enough.
After a short break away from football, van Bronckhorst headed for Turkey to take on the Besiktas job in the summer.
And his spell there could be even shorter than his time at Ibrox the way things are going.

Gio van Bronckhorst faces Besiktas sack
Van Bronckhorst’s Besiktas side sit sixth in the Turkish Super Lig and have gone their last four league matches without winning.
Their most recent game was a 4-2 home defeat to Goztepe in which they chucked away a two-goal lead built up inside the opening nine minutes of the game.
Their recent results have left the Black Eagles 13 points behind league leaders Galatasaray.
Fans have started to turn on van Bronckhorst and he was the subject of chanting amid their recent horrid run.
Turkish outlet Sabah is now reporting that negative results against Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the Europa League and then Hatay in the league on Sunday could seal the fate of the 49-year-old.
It is claimed club chiefs will call a meeting should that turn out to be the case.
But ominously for him it is claimed he now as “almost no support” from club chiefs.
Van Bronckhorst’s comments not helping
Sabah are also claiming that van Bronckhorst’s comments after that Goztepe defeat are not helping his cause.
He had pointed out that the side finished 46 points behind top spot last season, so questioned why they would be expected to now be challenging for the title.
Journalist Fatih Dogan criticised him for this, hitting back: “The day you turn a deaf ear to criticism is the day you close the paths to change and development.
“I have repeatedly explained that the ‘I know, we know best’ approach causes people and institutions to lose a lot.
“Bronckhorst is primarily responsible for Beşiktaş coming to this day with their stubbornness as well as their inadequacy.
“The management is also responsible for not intervening in the Dutchman’s mistakes and not being able to produce solutions.”
Sabah are also claiming that van Bronckhorst and his coaching staff took an ‘unprecedented’ amount of time off during the international break when it was felt he should have been back in Istanbul working to put things right.
