Ex-Rangers kid nets winner after summer move in bizarre Qatar clash

Former Rangers kid Chris McKee has netted his first goal for Linfield since moving to the club in the summer – in a bizarre friendly against World Cup hosts Qatar.

The 20-year-old Northern Ireland youth international scored the only goal of the game as Linfield defeated the Middle Eastern nation 1-0 in Marbella, Spain.

This was the Blues first match of pre-season and Chris McKee wasn’t the only Rangers-linked star turning out for Linfield.

Ex-Rangers youth prospect Cammy Palmer was also involved from the bench in a match that highlighted the woeful prospects for Qatar at this winter’s World Cup.

The Middle Eastern nation were controversially awarded the tournament – traditionally played in the summer – and the poor result against Linfield highlights their lack of stature in the footballing world.

Chris McKee signed permanently for Linfield this summer after spending last season with the club on loan.

Moving to Belfast for an “undisclosed fee”, the Carrickfergus born hitman has signed a two-year deal in the Northern Irish capital.

Speaking to Linfield’s official club media, it’s a move which McKee claims he is delighted to see come to fruition.

”I’m delighted so I am,” said Chris McKee [Linfield].

“Obviously it’s been a bit coming to get this finished but I’m delighted to get it done and I can’t wait to kick on next season now.

“It’s my first time playing in Europe at first team level so I can’t wait to get involved in them big games.

“Being able to travel home and away to play them games will be massive and it’ll be a great experience for me and hopefully we can go on and do well.”

Meanwhile, Rangers have been linked with a move for a striker who is certainly well-known amongst the Ibrox legions.
