Former Rangers winger Barrie McKay is set to be reunited with ex-Ibrox midfielder Joey Barton after signing a loan deal with Fleetwood Town.

The once highly-rated winger has signed a deal with the League One side which will see him play at Highbury Stadium until the end of the season.

Struggling for game time with parent club Swansea, McKay will now be hoping to show what he can do in the English third tier.

McKay was hooked in the second half of Swansea’s 5-1 loss to QPR earlier this month and has yet to be seen in the matchday squad yet.

The winger is well remembered at Rangers for scoring the second goal in the Gers’ 2-2 Scottish Cup semi-final penalty victory over Celtic in 2016.

A player of undoubted ability, McKay struggled for consistency at Ibrox and was eventually shipped out to Nottingham Forest when Pedro Caixinha joined the club.

Showing flashes of that ability, eventually McKay moved to Welsh outfit Swansea for an undisclosed fee at the start of the 2018/19 season.

But after falling out of favour at the liberty stadium McKay will now get the opportunity to work with former Rangers teammate Barton.

McKay and Barton played together during Joey Barton’s brief spell in Scotland back in 16/17.
