Former Rangers assistant manager Michael Beale continues to steal headlines down south as his QPR team dump Sheffield United to move into the English Championship top four.

The win against the division’s leaders means QPR have now won five of their last seven games as Michael Beale continues to impress in his first top job in management.

Chris Willock scored the only goal of the game and a strike that has plenty casting glances at the former Ibrox coach.

Rangers fans are following Michael Beale closely south of the border and everyone will be hoping he can make a proper fist of Premier League promotion with the Rs this season.

Spending time in the coaching departments of Liverpool, Chelsea and Sao Paolo before joining Rangers, Beale was also Steven Gerrard’s right-hand man at Aston Villa until this summer.

The lure of leading a team and club was clearly too much and it’s interesting that as QPR continue to go from strength-to-strength Aston Villa are not without their troubles since Beale moved to Loftus Road.

QPR boss Michael Beale continues to impress post-Rangers

Michael Beale was considered the tactical brains of the operation at Rangers whilst Steven Gerrard was the charismatic leader and a major pull for players.

Both proved a match made in heaven for Rangers after steering the club to 55 and after leaving Ibrox Beale has only ever had good things to say about the club.

The former Ibrox assistant also refused to rule out potentially taking the reins as Rangers manager in the future.

“I would like to manage Rangers one day,” said Beale [Mail on Sunday].

“I would like to think I have enough of an allegiance with the club and fans but it’s one thing wanting to do it — another to be competent and good enough.

“I was good enough to be a decent assistant. Time will tell whether I have the ingredients and qualities to be a good manager that I could go back there.”

If Michael Beale continues his fine form with QPR, then there’s no doubt he’ll be in the Rangers conversation in the years to come.

Meanwhile, one Ibrox international has been on the receiving end of criticism for a perceived lack of commitment at Rangers.
