Former Rangers player Jason Cummings has been banished to the Dundee U18 squad following his high-profile recent disciplinary breach, according to the Scottish Sun.

The 26-year-old – who spent time on loan at Rangers from Nottingham Forest in 2018 – attended the Open Goal event at the Hydro last Thursday night without permission from the Dee.

He reported to training the following day but was deemed unfit to train and sent home.

Furious manager James McPake then refused to include him in the matchday squad for their 1-0 defeat to Hearts at Dens Park on Saturday, despite already being without a number of first-team players due to injury and illness.

Ex-Rangers loan player banished to Dundee youth team

It doesn’t look like Cummings is going to get back in at first-team level anytime soon, either.

The Scottish Sun reported on Monday night that he has been banished to the U18s, who took on Albion Rovers in a bounce match earlier that day.

It was also asserted that with his current contract set to expire in the summer, Dundee will be looking to offload him for nothing during the January transfer window.

Cummings’ Dens Park career all but over after breach

It’ll be interesting to see whether or not another club makes a move for Cummings next month.

Remarkably, despite seemingly being around for a long time and representing Hibs, Forest, Rangers, Peterborough United, Luton Town and Shrewsbury Town before joining Dundee in January, he’s still only 26 and there’s no doubt that he’s got ability.

He showed that at times at Ibrox, bagging a Scottish Cup quarter-final hat-trick and an important goal in a post-split win over Hearts.

However, he’s always had issues with consistency and discipline and this latest incident certainly hasn’t helped his bad-boy reputation.

Meanwhile, Rangers appear to have been handed a big boost by a decision made by a fellow Premiership club.
