Former Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson has been waxing lyrical about Rangers manager Steven Gerrard.
Thomson, currently a U18s coach at the club, has praised Gerrard’s approach to management at Rangers. He also claims to listen closely to Gerrard’s approach with the media and discussed how much he is learning from the Liverpool legend.
But more than all that, Thomson is desperate for Gerrard to be a success at Rangers. And he is convinced the Gers boss will go on to be a “real, top manager”, inspiring him to do the same in the process.

“I am desperate for him to do really well and be really successful here,” said Thomson to the Herald. “He was an inexperienced manager, but the club gave him one of the biggest jobs in the world and gave him an opportunity.
“In my opinion, he is making massive steps to go and be a real, top manager. That gives me massive inspiration to keep on backing myself that I could do that.”

It’s high praise indeed from the former Rangers midfielder. It shows just how big an impression Steven Gerrard is leaving on prominent figures at the club.
And according to Thomson, much of that comes down his approach and attitude to life as a manager.
“The best thing that the manager said to me is that it is an open door here and we are all learning,” said Thomson.
“It was brilliant to hear a world-class player, an icon of the game, and someone that played at the very top level say that.

“For me, the refreshing thing is when I hear him speak or do press conferences. I am always listening to him and I feel he speaks the way I do, he has the same demands and ideas.
“I have heard him say that he has met a lot of people that have all the fancy lingo, all the fluff, and he is just a straight talker. I feel I am the same.”
