Former Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez is set to return to the UK to face Rangers with Real Betis in the Europa League.

The Spanish attacker, 30, joined the La Liga side permanently in the summer after spending the second half of last season on loan from Leicester City.

Most synonymous with a five-year stint at St James’ Park, Ayoze Perez had moved to Leicester back in 2019 in a reported £30m transfer deal.

It will be the second time Ayoze Perez has been back in the UK on official footballing duties since quitting English football and Rangers will be hoping it’s equally as painful for the attacker.

Whilst Perez scored in on his Real Betis debut – a Europa League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford – the fact his side were beaten 4-1 soured proceedings.

The attacker also played in the return leg in Spain with Manchester United running out 1-0 winners on the night and 5-1 winners on aggregate.

Ayoze Perez to return to UK with Real Betis for Rangers clash

Ibrox fans will perhaps most vividly remember Ayoze Perez from his time with Newcastle United down south.

Making 195 appearances for the Magpies, the striker also scored 48 goals and laid on 17 assists, but Perez’s time at Leicester was never as fruitful.

Scoring only 15 goals and making only 12 assists in 114 games for Leicester City, the attacker has arrived in Spain with a point to prove.

Considered a key player for Real Betis, Ayoze Perez is the club’s number 10 and has started in all five of the team’s La Liga matches this season, scoring in the opening day 2-1 win away to Villarreal.

The attacker is one of a number of talented players Real Betis have in their ranks and Rangers know they will have to be at their best to secure the Europa League victory.

One ex-Manchester City star is a major doubt for Real Betis heading into the match.
