Former Rangers striker Iain Ferguson has addressed the first team’s recent strong form on the Official Rangers Podcast.

It was the third consecutive game in which Gerrard’s team have scored three goals. Furthermore, Steven MacLean’s consolation for Hearts is the only goal conceded over that period.
Ferguson believes a change of shape and the inclusion of three former fringe players, has been key.
“That defensive unit, for me, is looking much much stronger, with Davis sitting in front of the back four,” Ferguson told the
Official Rangers Podcast.
“Niko Katic has come back in, Jon Flanagan has come back in. They have all been successes, they have all staked a claim to be wearing the jersey. It’ll be very difficult for whoever wants to get back in the team, to get back in.”

Verdict

It’s hard to disagree with Ferguson’s comments, here.
Now match fit, Davis is going from strength to strength and becoming the signing everyone thought the club was getting in January.

With Joe Worrall dropped, Katic is finally getting a go and looking increasingly solid at the back. He’s not yet the finished article, but this is an important period for his development, and he’s impressing so far.
Finally, Jon Flanagan’s transformation has been dramatic. He’s gone from a nervy stand-in to one of Steven Gerrard’s best performers over recent weeks. Few would have expected that, least of all, Borna Barisic.
