Rangers knocked the stuffing out of a raucous Celtic Park who’d started dreaming of a return to the summit of the Scottish Premiership.
That’s according to ex-Celtic Park right-back Mark Wilson, who claims that the Parkhead support suffered a body blow the moment James Tavernier equalised v Kilmarnock.
As the Scottish Premiership title race promises to swing back and forth, particularly when the two sides are playing at the same time, there will be plenty of attention on the other’s results.
And in a feeling which has been more familiar for Rangers fans in recent seasons, Mark Wilson claims the Ibrox side’s Rugby Park comeback silenced the crowd at Celtic Park.
Mark Wilson on Celtic Park reaction to Rangers goal
Speaking on Clyde Superscoreboard, Mark Wilson revealed he was at Celtic Park for their match with Dundee, the Parkhead side mauling the Dee 7-1.
There’s been plenty made about the atmosphere inside Parkhead on the night but as detailed here, Rangers dealt the Parkhead momentum a body blow with their comeback v Kilmarnock.
“Last night was one of the first times in a long time I can remember when the goal went in for Kilmarnock the roar at Celtic Park,” said Mark Wilson. “I said at the time Killie must’ve scored.
“There was a lull when Rangers scored – no doubt about it – within the stadium. The game was (already) won on the pitch.”
Wilson – who also turned out at right-back – took the opportunity to praise Rangers captain James Tavernier, whose record from free-kicks is “frightening”.
“I said who scored, Tavernier, once again,” said Mark Wilson. “Was it a penalty? No, I assumed it was a free kick and it was a wonderful free kick again.
“I seen a replay of one he scored earlier in his career at Rugby Park, identical position. The technique that boy has got is incredible. To get so many, not only target, but to go in, is frightening.”
Scottish Premiership title pressure builds
We’ve been there plenty of times in recent seasons.
When Rangers have heaped the pressure on Celtic, and Ibrox fans have gotten excited as a result, the Parkhead club have often quashed the momentum at source.
Really, it’s the mark of Champions to hold off your title rivals like this and it’s part of the reason why Rangers have usurped the Parkhead side at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

With the title race likely to go down to the wire, Rangers will hope to keep dealing these body blows to the Celtic crowd with all eyes on a big weekend ahead.
Rangers are set to host Motherwell at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon whilst Celtic travel to Hearts for a tough test at Tynecastle on Sunday.
