Reports in Italy are claiming that European giants Roma have drawn up an alternative shortlist to Rangers full-back Borna Barisic after being shot down by the Ibrox club.
According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, the Stadio Olimpico club have drawn up a shortlist of names including Loris Benito of Bordeaux and Borna Sosa of Stuttgart.
The news comes after Rangers admitted interest from the Italian club and whilst they refused to “shut it down completely” wanted to open contract talks with the Croat [Herald].
Barisic’s agent also appeared to confirm the interest in the RomaPress.
Gazzetta Dello Sport also claimed that the Italian club wanted to put through a loan move for the full-back with an eventual €5 million fee should he impress.
Unsurprisingly this was shot down by Rangers with reports suggesting should the Gers sell Barisic, they’d expect the bidding to start at £10m.
However, Rangers are said to be unwilling to part ways with Borna Barisic in the midst of a title fight with the left-back being a pivotal part of the Ibrox side’s plans this campaign.
Rangers fans will breathe a sigh of relief that the Italian club appears to have drawn up an alternative shortlist which doesn’t include Borna Barisic in this transfer window.
The Ibrox club’s season is very neatly poised and with no major transfers into Rangers expected, the club cannot afford to lose one of their biggest assets.
