La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly bid £67m for a new striker amid talk of Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos replacing Luis Suarez.

Rangers’ Colombian talisman Morelos was tipped to replace the feisty Uruguayan by Colombian footballing icon Jorge Luis Pinto [Daily Record].

But with former Liverpool icon Suarez set to be ruled out of action for up to four months, Barcelona are said to have set their sights on Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder instead [Daily Mail].

Reports claim the Catalan club have bid £67m for the striker, meaning Rangers’ Morelos probably won’t be moving to the Camp Nou anytime soon.

Not that there as ever any official interest in the player from Barcelona, just that suggestion from the former Colombia boss.

“Alfredo Morelos would be the ideal striker to replace Luis Suarez for me,” said Pinto.

“Why not? His performances in the last year certainly suggests that he could replace him. He has been a battering ram at Rangers.”

It’s not the first time the Rangers striker has been mentioned in the same breath as the great Luis Suarez either.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard once compared the Colombian to his former Anfield team-mate, saying both players have an “X-factor”.

Whilst 23-year-old Alfredo Morelos is surely set for bigger things in his career, Rangers fans won’t be too surprised Barca haven’t followed up on Pinto’s advice.

But there’s still plenty of time for that with 28-goal striker Morelos having his entire career in front of him.
