Rangers have been described as a “beautiful club with a beautiful stadium” by Royal Antwerp ahead of the tie between the two sides at Ibrox this evening.

The Gers hold a 4-3 advantage over the Great Old and they welcome the Belgians to Ibrox knowing Antwerp will need to score two goals to even entertain the idea of making the last 16.

It’s a tall order and the match promises to be another Europa League classic with Rangers looking to reach the same stage of the competition they did last season.

Taking to their socials, Royal Antwerp have lavished praise on Rangers in a training video which shows the Jupiler Pro League side as a team very much up for this clash.

“We are ready for this challenge vs a beautiful club in a beautiful stadium!” reads the post [Antwerp].

This would suggest Royal Antwerp did visit Ibrox ahead of the match even if they had to train at Auchenhowie before the tie.

Traditionally, opposition sides train at the stadium on the eve of the match but Royal Antwerp manager Franky Vercauteren admitted this was the request of Rangers.

The two clubs are eager to protect the surface ahead of what promises to be a special night in Glasgow as European football returns to Ibrox for the first time in 2021.

“It was a demand of Rangers,” said Vercauteren [Daily Record].

“I’m a football fan, so I want to protect the field to play the game. We don’t want to demolish the field with respect to the opponent and ourselves.

“We want to play in the best conditions. That’s why we are here. When you are a professional team, you have to understand the demands of the other team. We would not want another team to kill our field.

“That’s why we are training here instead. Training the day before the game is not so important.”

Here’s our predicted XI for the match at Ibrox which kicks off at 5:55pm this evening in Glasgow.
