Rangers striker Jermain Defoe will sign a new deal to join the ranks at Ibrox permanently, according to multiple reports [Daily Record, STV].
The Scottish press are claiming that the legendary Premier League striker – who is the league’s eighth-highest ever goalscorer – is set to sign the deal with his contract at Bournemouth expiring.
Defoe is currently on-loan at Ibrox from the Cherries and by the time his current deal ends will have spent 18 months at Rangers.

Defoe has never hidden his desire to stay at Ibrox and at 37 is one of the most senior and influential members of Steven Gerrard’s squad.
The report also appears to confirm that Rangers want to tie down fellow veterans Steven Davis and Allan McGregor.
The 34-year-old Davis has been a revelation at Rangers this season and has rolled back the years in the middle of the pitch at Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard revealed that 37-year-old McGregor has an automatic contract extension clause in his contract [Scottish Sun] and given his role at Ibrox this is likely to kick in this year.
The trio clearly have a big role to play on and off the pitch in Glasgow and their experience will be invaluable in the race for silverware at Rangers.
