Everton or Aston Villa could launch a move for Rangers kid Cole McKinnon as he enters the final year of his Ibrox deal.

According to the Sun, the 17-year-old Academy midfielder has “caught the attention of several Premier League sides”.

The report directly names the two Premier League sides as keeping tabs on the Scotland U-17 international but suggests there are also others interested in the player.

McKinnon was part of the talented young Gers squad who won the ALKASS Cup in 2019 and has already featured for Graeme Murty’s reserve squad despite his young age.

The interest in midfielder McKinnon comes after former Rangers youth starlet Billy Gilmour has broken through into the Chelsea first team.

The sensational breakthrough of 19-year-old Gilmour at Stamford Bridge proves there is plenty of talent to be found up north.

Rangers also did well to ward off interest from the likes of Man City, Man Utd, Spurs and Arsenal [Daily Record] to secure defender Leon King on a professional deal.

Rangers have recently restructured their academy into a three-tier system in a ground-breaking shake-up which is designed to create the best environment to produce elite players.

This flexible evolution will allow players and staff to develop across the club and hopefully provide the likes of King and McKinnon with greater first-team opportunities.
