English Championship lub Brentford are set to step up their chase for Rangers-linked Peterborough forward Siriki Dembele, according to a report in the Sun.
That report claimed that Dembele had been recommended to Bees bosses by former teammate Ivan Toney who has been a revelation in the Championship this season.
Toney signed for Brentford in the summer for a reported transfer fee which could reach £9m and the Sun claim Thomas Frank’s side could return with another raid on the Posh in January.
However, the Sun report has since been refuted by Peterborough director of football Barry Fry, who claims that Brentford have denied any interest in the player.
“We heard a rumour Brentford were interested in Siriki weeks ago so we checked it out and they denied it,” said Fry [Peterborough Telegraph].
“I dare say Ivan did recommend him, but Brentford have not made contact and we don’t expect them to.
“Our line remains the same. We are not interested in losing our best players in January.”
Whilst that’s not exactly clear, it was Fry who revealed that Rangers had been watching Dembele in the run up to the window with the 24-year-old forward gathering attention across the UK.
According to Fry, Rangers are one of a number of clubs looking at the forward following a successful spell with the League One club [Peterborough Telegraph].
Since Rangers were linked to the player Dembele has handed in a transfer request but it appears clear the Posh are unwilling to do business in January.
There is one player Rangers are definitely interested in however as a rival manager revealed the Ibrox side has made an approach for one of his players.
